Incumbent Chester Ellis Announces Re-election Bid for Chatham County Chairmanship

(SAVANNAH, Ga.) With a vision of continued growth and community unity, Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis announced his campaign for a second term as the County Chairman. Located at 2505 Abercorn Street, the “Chester For Chatham” Headquarters opened its doors for the campaign launch.

Under the theme “United We Thrive,” Chairman Ellis outlined his objectives for Chatham County’s progress, emphasizing collective growth and unity among the county’s eight municipalities.

“I have stood on the frontlines of our county – keeping taxes low – supporting the public safety of our families, expanding opportunities for small business creation, and executing the blueprint for our County’s monumental growth. We have accomplished so much. Now is our time to thrive together!” said Chairman Ellis.

Chairman Ellis has been instrumental in numerous initiatives, including his efforts with the Savannah Harbor-Interstate 16 Corridor Joint Development Authority, which has yielded significant economic benefits, expanded technical education and generated thousands of jobs within the county.

“I am running for re-election as Chairman of Chatham County to continue building together a community where we all live, learn, work, grow, and thrive!” said Chairman Ellis.

A lifelong resident of Chatham County and alumnus of Sophronia Tompkins High School and Savannah State University, Chairman Ellis has a master’s degree in education and leadership from Cambridge College and pursued doctoral studies in educational leadership at the Fielding Institute.

With over 30 years of leadership and management experience, Chairman Ellis served the school system as a teacher and coach within the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System. During his tenure, he served on numerous leadership teams, mentored incoming teachers and maintained an active presence in the community through service with several organizations and boards.

In 2021, Ellis was elected as Chairman of the Chatham County Board of Directors after having served as the Commissioner for District 8 for the four years prior. Since that time, he served on various boards, including the Chatham Area Transit Authority, the Coastal Regional Commission, and as vice-chairman of the commission. He is the pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and holds leadership positions with several ministerial groups.

Chairman Ellis and his wife Wilmotine have three daughters and four grandchildren.
